2008 Projects
Enterprise
Builders and FBT Architects joined
forces
with over 25 volunteers to help out Jay and Carmen Brown. Outside we replaced
the back door and part of the wall that had been damaged by a leaking
air conditioner. We also replaced the air
conditioner and added a new
set of steps for the back door. We cleaned up the yard and repainted the
exterior. The skirting around the home was replaced. Inside we replaced
the carpet and vinyl fl oors and renovated two bathrooms. Enterprise Builders
provided numerous volunteers and coordinated the large crew of subcontractors.
Honeywell provided over 40 volunteers and four weekends of effort to
remodel LeRoy and Mary Lou Chavez’s home. The effort included re-stucco,
roof repair, yard clean-up and tree removal. On the interior, a whole
new kitchen remodel included new cabinets, sink, fl ooring and wall repair.
On the remainder of the house, new paint throughout, new carpet, new ceiling
fans, and electrical repair. Honeywell contributed $8,000 to the upgrade
of the home.
Mary
Helen Martinez was recently widowed when she applied for help. She wanted
to fi nish what her husband started, which was to complete the bathroom
that was almost inoperable and in sad shape (tile falling and tub leaking).
Her laundry room drain was clogged and this made her washing machine unable
to drain, as well. Her windows and doors were old and leaking. At completion,
Mary Helen was in tears at the new windows and doors installed. Her stucco
repair and paint on the outside was beyond what she expected. She was
overwhelmed and grateful to all involved with her home becoming a safe
haven (rather than a burden). Those involved
were Accent Windows, CJ Builders,
Sandia Presbyterian, Performance Remodelers, AARP and API (American Petroleum
Institute).
Students from St. Pius X High School and Eldorado High School Glee Club performed yard work and repainted the outside of Mary Anderson’s home.
